These individuals are operating a “business” under “Dream Star Business Group”, claiming to run a legitimate car trade operation. Their “business” entails soliciting people, known as straw buyers, to purchase luxury vehicles for them with promises of high commissions.
The scam is that as part of the car purchase transaction, the straw buyer has to sign a non-export agreement with the dealership. Erick Chen and/or Glen Beckel tell the straw buyer to sign the agreement because they do not export the vehicle or says that the agreement is not enforceable. Of course, they are lying because the purchased vehicle is actually exported and the straw buyer is left as a defendant in a very serious lawsuit from the dealerships.
Erick Chen and/or Glen Beckel promise the straw buyer that they will cover legal costs associated to the lawsuit, but their promises are empty because they run for the hills when the legal expenses get too high or the dealership is unwilling to settle for what they consider to be a “reasonable” amount leaving the straw buyer holding the bag.
Currently, Erick Chen and Glen Beckel are defendants in a lawsuit for abandoning a straw buyer resulting in a $40,000[+] judgment and legal expense.
Erick Chen and Glen Beckel are also under criminal investigation for this scam.
